The Bridge design requirements & design goals for Bridge+More
The goal of creating a technically advanced product for an old and traditional card game like Contract Bridge, has been an ambitious and challenging project.
The bridge design and product requirements for the Bridge+More Dealer have been many.
- The most important for the dealer was to achieve a compact size both in regards to the overall footprint as well as the height. To keep the product as low as possible was important so that it would not obstruct the view between the players. Part of the game is about seeing the bidding cards placed on the table as well as seeing the partners or the opponent’s cards, which are also placed on the bridge table.
- The function of the swing open lid on the top of the product was also designed so that the lid would not obstruct the view between the players when opened.
All very important requirements when playing the game.
From a design point of view, Steve McGugan’s goal was to create a design language for the Bridge+More that would be simple and discreet when the dealer is sitting in the middle of a bridge table as well as modern and elegant.
The soft curved side’s helps to make the dealer look thin and light and the large rounded corners makes the product look friendly.
The choice of silver and black colors for the dealer helps to underline a modern and technologically advanced product that will bring the game of Bridge into a new era.

The products Stave has created have a simple and classic design language, rational and easy to manufacture, easy to use and a long product life. Some of the products have been on the market for over 15 years.
The assignments vary greatly and appeal to a wide variety of end-users, but they all have a simple and functional design style.
Steve and his clients have received numerous design awards, such as the Danish Design award 7 times, Japanese G prize 4 times, German IF design award 2 times and the German Red Dot design award 4 times.
During his work at Bang & Olufsen he designed the Form 2 headphones, which have become a classical icon. They are the only headphones in the world that have been on the market for 30 years. In 1992 the Form 2 headphones were accepted to the New York Museum of Modern Art’s permanent design collection.
